Scuderia Maranga Racing makes a step forward in Jerez

After a Saturday in trouble Perez ended seventh in race 2 while Sanchez, fantastic in the “Last Chance Race”, is forced to retire due to a crash at the start. Marangoni: “We have not expressed our potencial yet”

In the Superpole Mika Perez was not fast as it was during the winter test here. His best lap (1’54.175) placed him in 20th position of the starting grid one second far from the pole position.

During the qualifying session the other Maranga’s rider Borja Sanchez suffered technical problem at his gear and he missed the direct access to the race 1and he was forced to start from the back of the Last Chance Race’s starting grid. However the Maranga Racing crew did a great job and in few hours the technicians were able to repair the bike and let the rider to have a perfect machine on the grid.

In the Last Chance Race Borja Sanchez built his masterpiece: started 24th he won the race conquering the access for race 1, which toke place at 5 pm.

Race 1
Mika Perez and Borjas Sanchez was 20th (due to a penalty) and 30th respectively on the starting grid and both had a tough race. Starting from the back is never easy, but the two Maranga’s riders managed their way through the busy mid-pack.

In a race full of overtake the number-8 played between the 16th and the 21th position. Thanks to a fast last part of the race he made four overtake in the last lap winning the battle among his group and crossing the finish line in seventeenths place, slightly out the point zone. Borja was 23th 10 second far from the leader.

Race 2
In race 2, held in the traditional Sunday schedule and interrupted by a red flag, Perez managed to recover from seventeenth to seventh position with a great series of overtaking. Unlucky the other Scuderia Maranga rider Borja Sanchez crashes out due to contacts that prevented him from fighting for a good result.

RACE 1 P17 – RACE 2 P7
The weekend was difficult because on the bike I didn’t have good feelings, but with a good start I managed to get into the group fighting to be in top 10. On the last lap with a good overtaking I managed to conquer the seventh position. In my opinion this weekend something was missing in qualifying to stay in the first group, but I have to thank the team that did a great job.

Today they touched me both at the first start and at the second and I crashed out early. In the race I couldn’t even go for an entire lap. At the second corner, after the red flag, I saw only a green flash that came over me and I couldn’t do anything. We work hard all weekend and at home to get ready for the race and it’s a shame to ruin everything like that.

We are not able to do linear work in the preparation of the race, thought to this winter when the rules was different. However in Jerez we had a step forward, especially in terms of mentality. I believe that from Misano we will be even more competitive and we would like to continue the growth trend. If we took the pole in Imola and the track record it means the package is good. Unfortunately, every race something happens, this time Borja has been dropped twice, we are unlucky and we have not shown all our potential.
