Two riders of the team from Bologna in trouble: Perez fifteenth, Sanchez went out after retirement in Last Chance race
Alcañiz (SPA), 7th April 2019. The first round of MOTUL FIM World Supersport 300 Championship ended up being a tough weekend for Scuderia Maranga Racing. At Motorland Aragòn circuit, in Spain, the Kawasaki supported team from Bologna rounded out three days of hard work with his two new brand, Mika Perez and Borja Sanchez.
Riding their Kawasaki Ninja 400, the two Spanish riders struggled a lot with a bike that changed a lot from test exclusively because of the changing rules announced only on Thursday. This caused performance problems and the team worked all night between Saturday and Sunday trying to solve the problems.
The twenty year old Mika Perez, vice Champion in this category, succeeded in part by finishing in fifteenth place the first race of the season, after starting from the eighteenth position on the grid.
All race long, he fought in the second group, but in the final stages, with the tenth place within reach, the Maranga rider was forced to go wide not not to jump on another rider and lost positions.
Borja Sanchez ended prematurely the weekend because he didn’t managed to be among the best fifteen fastest rider on Superpole Group A, than he was out of top six even in Last Chance Race.
Because of the large number, on friday and saturday sessions the 52 riders are divided into two groups. The best fifteen rider of each group in Saturday’s Superpole proceed directly into race. The others can make the last shot in the socolled Last Chance Race, whose best six riders jumps into starting grid’s race.
